Pirate Chest Garden

Chest for Garden

Chest for the Ship Garden

I have this metal chest that looks like a Pirate Chest that I used to store pressed logs in for the fireplace.  We changed to a gas log so I thought it would make a great idea for one of my Container Gardens.  My husband contributed a model of a sailing ship that he had build many years ago that had gotten damaged beyond repair.  The idea is to make this into a sunken ship with the chest as the container and to add Succulent and Miniature plants to make it look like it is an Underwater Garden.

Broken Ship Model

The Broken Sunken Ship

The ship is now broken in half as it probably would have sinking to the bottom of the sea.  I have spend several days trying to decide how to position it in the chest before I start with all the plantings.  I also have chicken wire to use as a filler so that I won’t use so much planting soil and make the whole project weigh a ton.

I have been taking pictures of each step and will be posting them as soon as I get them loaded into the computer.  My sister, who happens to be taking the same WordPress class as I am, is going to help me with posting the pictures.

This is going to be a fun project and I can’t wait to get it finished and start on another idea.  I certainly hope this Pirate Chest Garden turns out a good as it looks in my head.

Until the next post, Kathy
